Govt chalks out plan for garbage-free tourist spots

PANAJI: In an attempt to ensure cleanliness on the beaches in the state and provide garbage-free surroundings to the tourists, the tourism department has chalked out plans to ensure lifting of both dry and wet garbage from the beaches and other places of tourist interest by involving local self-governing bodies in the  cleanliness drive.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar chaired a meeting of officials of various government agencies on Monday to work out modalities to make sure that the garbage (both dry and wet) collected by the contractors for the purpose was not left on the beaches and other places of tourist
interest.
Parulekar further said that the plan has chalked out the modalities for collection of wet garbage from the shacks on various beaches in the state and ensure that it was lifted by the local bodies or other agencies appointed for the purpose, so as to ensure that there was no pollution on the beaches and a pleasant atmosphere was presented to the tourists.
The Tourism Minister also stated that handling of garbage at the places of tourist interest was a top priority for his department and that he would ensure with the participation of various government departments that a new and clean face of the state was presented to the tourists, who would then turn into brand ambassadors for a
“clean Goa.”
The meeting was also attended by the tourism director, managing director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation, officials of Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji.
