Govt approves Goa IT policy

The state cabinet on Wednesday gave approval to the Goa Information Technology Policy 2018 and the schemes framed under it for focusing on making Goa a vibrant destination for the information technology (IT) sector and to create employment opportunities for Goan youth.

Briefing media along with Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai after cabinet meeting, IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said that the policy focuses on better future for Goan youth in the IT and the IT-enabled sectors and making the state the first choice for investments in IT and related sectors.

He said that the Goa IT policy 2018 will be unveiled at the Goa IT day event to be held on July 14 and 15.

Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, will be the chief guest for the inaugural function of the Goa IT day event. Dignitaries like Mohandas Pai, Ashank Desai and others from the IT sector will deliver lectures during the two-day event.

Khaunte said that the Goa IT day event will be held at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) complex. The event will see over 1,000 plus key stakeholders from IT, ITeS, corporates, startups, students, media and government coming together and celebrating the spirit of IT, innovations and skilling.

The Goa IT policy will have provision for growth and development of Goa, its human capital and to foster growth of smaller businesses. It will delve with issues like development of technology park, ready-to-move-in warm

shells, plug-and-play facilities, incubation centres with training etc for new and existing IT units and incentives to recruit Goan freshers from Goan technical institutes. The policy also has provision for incentives for multinational companies looking to start operations in the state of Goa.

There will be schemes under the Goa IT policy like land/built-up rebate, lease rental subsidy, capital investment subsidy, registration and stamp duty subsidy, power, solar power, internet, salary subsidy, campus recruitment assistance, patent filing reimbursement etc.

The IT Minister further said that the IT policy will create around 10,000 job opportunities, adding that there will be special facilitation centres for investors in South Goa and North Goa.

Meanwhile, the two-day IT event will have skilling workshops by Google and Facebook, partnership announcements with IT companies and other corporates, inauguration of STPI centre, ecosystem talks from top IT/ITeS stakeholders and panel discussion on the trends shaping the future of IT.
