Google’s ‘Confidential Mode’ was until recently limited to the desktop version. But the search giant has now announced an update for the Android app as well. Using this feature one can protect sensitive information from unauthorised access. One can send emails through a confidential mode (self-destruct) after a given span of time. Google is enabling reading in a secure web portal for non Google email accounts. Gmail users can read the email just like other emails. It’s a server-side roll out which means users don’t have to update the app. Google also allows users to set a passcode to open the message. Using this mode, one can prevent the recipient from accidentally sharing the email but doesn’t block users from taking screenshots or photos of the message or attachment. This feature isn’t available for G Suite customers at this time. The confidential mode settings cannot be altered after sending the mail, once the configuration is saved.
