Panaji: Panaji police, probing the theft of gold ornaments worth around Rs 30 lakh during a wedding reception at a venue in the city last week, have located the car that was reportedly used in the crime.
The car has been traced in Gujarat from where the accused 25-year-old Savant Sisodiya was arrested. According to the police, the accused along with a minor boy and couple of more accused persons are suspected to have travelled to Goa by a car (registered outside Goa) and then left for Gujarat after committing the crime.
Police are trying to track down the minor boy as well as other accused persons involved in the crime and also the recovery of
gold ornaments. Sisodiya is a native of Madhya Pradesh and police suspect that the accused is part of a gang which has similar modus operandi to target wedding
The accused take help of minor boys to lift bags from wedding venues as it doesn’t attract suspicion and becomes very useful in committing the crime, the police said. The accused is currently in police custody. It may be recalled that the theft incident had occurred last week on Tuesday night.
The gold ornaments were kept in a bag, said the police, referring to the complaint lodged by Gurunath Pai. Based on CCTV footage and intelligence gathered, the police managed to identify the accused Sisodiya, who was seen along with a minor boy. Referring to the CCTV footage, the police said that the boy was seen lifting the bag reportedly containing the gold ornaments.
