Goa’s Harshad Deepak Gaonkar a special student from Bicholim Keshav Sewa Sadhana’s Narayan Zantye’s Special School won two gold medals at the recently concluded Special Olympics held in Abu Dhabi.
A resident of Vaiginim Mayem, he won the two gold medals in 500 and 300 meters roller skating event. With this achievement Harshad made Goa and his country proud as he retured home on Saturday. He was assisted by his coach Premanand Naik.
Under the guidance of Premanand, Harshad broke onto the skating scene in the year 2014. “Harshad is a promising player and we were confident about him,” his coach Premanand Naik said.
Harshad’s father passed away three years ago and his family has been struggling financially. His mother works as a sweeper in the electricity department of Bicholim. He has a younger sister, Tanisha.
His mother Radhika who constantly struggles to make ends meet, is very happy to listen this news of her son winning two gold medals. His School chairman Sagar Shetye and headmistress Seema Desai has congratulated Harshad for this achievement.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant also congratulated him.
