Goan lad and student of class six of Sharada Mandir School, Omar Naik made the state proud as he won the silver medal in the International English Olympiad held in New Delhi organised by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF).
SOF conducts six Olympiad exams. These include the National Cyber Olympiad (NCO); National Science Olympiad (NSO); International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO); International English Olympiad (IEO) International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO) and SOF- International Company Secretaries Olympiad (ICSO).
Over 50,000 schools from 1400 cities across 30 countries participated in the SOF Olympiad 2018-19 with around 50 lakh students appearing for the Olympiad. Zonal Rank 2 was won by Naik who was awarded a silver medal and a certificate. SoF organised a ceremony to recognise and award the winning students. On the occasion the chief guest, former chief justice of India Dipak Misra congratulated the winners.
Founder and executive director of SOF, Mahabir Singh, said: “In addition to the international winner; 61000 students from 6300 schools have been awarded for achieving top state level ranks while 8,00,000 students have been awarded medals of excellence for achieving top ranks in their respective schools.” Apart from this 2000 principals and teachers have also been honoured for their commitment to academics and single minded pursuit in successfully improving the students’ academic knowledge.
From 2019-20, SOF will introduce the SOF International Commerce Olympiad for students of Class 11 and 12 to assist them to prepare for their board exams.
