Goa run-over Tamil Nadu

Goa maintained their winning streak in the Elite Group C BCCI women’s U-19 One Day League defeating Tamil Nadu by 5 wickets at MCC Ground Margao on Saturday.

Batting first Tamil Nadu scored 99 runs as Goa captain Tejashwini Duragad ran through the batting order taking 4 wickets.

In response, Goa lost five wickets with Duragad being the highest scorer hitting 45.

Tamil Nadu openers showed intent to put up a fighting total but C Shushanthika and A Eloksi were back in the pavilion by the 17th over. Shushanthika was run out by Purvaja Verlekar and Eloksi fell to Diksha Gawde’s delivery.

Following the openers departure the remaining batting order collapsed like ten pins. Captain S B Keerthana was the next to go as she could manage only 2 runs facing 10 deliveries after Tejashwini Duragad caught and bowled her. But then five wickets fell in the span of 3 runs and this led to Tamil Nadu wilting under pressure.

S Swathi was caught by Shidiya Naik off a delivery by Savali Kolambkar; her contribution was only 6 runs. With the score board unchanged, Aswathi Shankar was the next to go after Duragad’s ball was once again caught by Shindiya Naik. Her innings ended for just 7 runs.

K N Ramyashri tried to show some determination but she was sent back without opening an account after facing Kolambkar’s fine delivery.

Duragad came close to a hat-trick after she sent back S Aruna Devi and Meenakshi with two consecutive deliveries, without making a score. At this point Tamil Nadu were 64/8.

Tail enders Ananya Prakash and Yogya Kosuri took charge and led the south state to 99. Ananya fell to Diksha Gawde for 15 runs after facing 39 balls. The innings closed when MS Aishwarya was run out by Gawde for just one run.

Tejashwini Duragad finished her spell with 4 wickets giving away 19 runs. Kolambkar and Diksha Gawde took two wickets each.

Chasing 99 Goa openers were dismissed cheaply. Purvaja Verlekar and Shindiya Naik scored 1 and 3 runs; Goa were struggling at 6/2.

But captain Duragad and Diksha Gawde brought some stability to Goa’s run chase and played cautiously. After facing 32 balls Diksha Gawde was bowled by SB Keerthana for 14 runs. It was Tanaya Naik who came in next and gave Duragad a reliable partnership.

Three runs away from victory captain Duragad fell for 45 after being given lbw off a delivery by MS Aishwarya. Tanaya Naik’s innings came to a close for 20 runs after facing 44 balls when she was bowled by S Shushanthika. Poorva Bhaidkar scored a run and guided Goa to victory.
