Goa Police start GFA first division with 5 goal blitz

Goa Police Sports Club registered a thumping 5-0 win over Goa Velha Sports Club in the inaugural match of GFA’s 1st Division League, played at Duler stadium, on Monday.

Goa Police started brightly and scored four goals in the first session of play.

In the 6th minute Milind Shinde who was very much impressive in the midfield sent a through pass to Sachin Chopdekar who beat the offside trap and scored past the helpless Goa Velha keeper Olten Fernandes, 1-0.

Once again Milind Shinde was instrumental in the second goal, where in the 15th minute his free kick was controlled by his skipper Abdul Khan who lobbed the ball over the Goa Velha’s defensive wall, 2-0.

Goa Velha had a glorious chance to reduce the margin, but Jesroy Fernandes shot at the goal off a corner hit the upright and the ball came into play. Goa Police scored two more quick goals in the 28th and 30th minute of play almost in a similar fashion.

It was Sachin Chopdekar whose crosses were finished by Gaurav Khankolkar to take the score tally to 4-0. On crossing over play was mostly restricted to midfield with Goa Police looking content with their four goals lead.

However in the 68th minute, substitute Dalesh Pednekar dribbled past a host of Goa Velha defenders and scored past the keeper, 5-0. In South Goa:United Club of Telaulim started their first division GFA football league campaign on a promising note when they registered a solitary goal win over  Sesa Football Academy, at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Monday.

The match started on a hot pace as both the teams rolled the ball from one end to the other. Both the teams were evenly balanced in all the departments of the game and had good chances to score in the first half itself, but the goalkeepers at either end brought off some smart saves.

In the second session too, the match continued in the same vein of attacking football with Sesa Football Academy having some edge for few minutes of play in this half and then after some good probing, both the teams seemed even.

It was in the 78th minute of play that United Club of Telaulim saw a huge gap in the rival defence when Neysil Pinto sneaked in and shot past the Sesa Football Academy keeper to snatch full points for his team. In the last few minutes of play, Sesa Footaball Academy tried some long rangers but the UC Telaulim keeper Devlin D’Costa brought off some good saves.

In another match played at Corps of Signals grounds at Millitary camp, Corps of Signals registered a solitary goal win against Penha de Franca SC in a very exciting match.

Both the teams went on full throttle to put pressure on the defence with attacking moves, but somehow the defenders of both the teams got out of the situation without crumbling to pressure.

However, in the 85th minute of play Signals striker Nokul C unleashed an elegant effort which Penha de Franca keeper was unable to cope, resulting in a great goal to give the Signals team a deserving win in the opening session of this league. Signals keeper Zivak stole the limelight with some spectacular saves.
