MARGAO: The stormy Zilla Panchayat meeting held on Friday began on a innocuous note with the minutes of the last meeting read out.
The proposal by Mr Domnick Gaokar for a new ZP Ghar to be built came up for discussion. This has been agreed to in principle.
But when it was decided to form a three-member committee to finalise the modalities and to look into the conditions about the project at the proposed plot at Aquem, there began an acrimonious debate on the formation and about who would head the committee.
Another point of friction and debate was the missing grass cutter, with some members wanting to file a missing complaint.
The three-member committee was finalised but remained headless for want of quorum. The body has a ` 1.5 crore budget to purchase the plot, informed sources.
The meeting also approved the expenditure statement of the development works and administrative expenses for the month of April and discussed the proposed development works. The flag hoisting of August 15 also came up for discussion. The body also proposed to purchase 500 streetlights before the Chaturthi festival and wanted a grass-cutting machine to be purchased before the end of the monsoon.
Another proposal was of approaching the Agriculture Minister, Mr Vishwajit Rane asking for some 60 varieties of saplings.
The body passed a motion congratulating newly appointed chief justice of the Allabahad High Court, Mr Justice Ferdino Rebello.
