Women asked to take active part in politics

MAPUSA:  Former Delhi mayor and BJP leader in charge of Goa, Ms Aarti Mehra has called upon women to come forward and take active part in politics as they could bring in about a sizeable transformation in the society.

Ms Mehra, who is in Goa, was addressing a mahila melawa at Mapusa on Sunday evening.

Speaking  on the occasion, she said that many politicians in the past tried to make use of women for their political benefits but this was now  ending as women have  now awakened and they are in a position to identify what is good and bad.

She said that to make women more vibrant and make their  presence be known in legislative assemblies  and Parliament it was important that women be given reservation so that  they can collectively bring about a change.

"The BJP has always been giving due  representation to women to contest elections as the party  feels that in today’s society the empowerment, awakening and active participation of women in politics was the need  of the hour," she added. 

Speaking about the situation in Goa , Ms  Mehra  said that the state  was quite good and just as the  BJP  under the rule of Mr Vajpayee had brought about a change in the  country, BJP rule in Goa was also needed to take the state on the path of progress.

"Women  should be in the forefront off highlighting the acts of commission and omission by the present Congress state government that has done the state no good and women must strive to see that the BJP come to power in Goa" she remarked.  

The meeting held at Trimurti hall in Mapusa witnessed a large number of women BJP activists including members and workers who had come from   different places of Bardez, Pernem and Bicholim . Prominent BJP women wing  leaders including Ms Shubhangi Vaingankar, Ms Shilpa Naik the ZP member from Latambarcem in Bicholim, Mapusa MLA Mr Francis D’Souza, General secretary Mr Rupesh Kamat and various other office bearers of the BJP  particularly of the women’s wing of  North Goa BJP were also present and spoke  on the occasion.
