Water problem of North Goa has been sorted out: Alemao

BICHOLIM: The PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao has said that the power entrusted by the people in the ruling Congress government is for providing different facilities to the people, mainly to the poor sectors in the villages of the state. He also said that the government is taking initiative for all-round development of the state by developing all the constituencies without any discrimination.

Mr Alemao was speaking at the inaugural function of commissioning of improvement of water supply schemes to Shirigaon village in Bicholim taluka, held on Sunday evening. The Mayem MLA, Mr Anant Shet, Shirigaon sarpanch, Ms Hemlata Gaonkar, Mayem sarpanch, Ms Anita Naik, principal chief engineer, Mr Anand Vachasunder was also present on the occasion. The function was held at Shri Lairadevi temple hall at Shirigaon.

Mr Alemao unveiled the plaque to inaugurate the improvement of water supply scheme.

Speaking further, he said that the problem of scarcity of drinking water, faced by the people of Shirigaon has been sorted out totally and they would be provided adequate water for the next 20 years.

The Minister also said that the water problem of North Goa has been sorted out permanently as water from the Tillari dam project is available for Assanora water treatment plant, the capacity of which has been recently increased.

Mr Alemao expressed concern over the uncooperative attitude of some of the government officers and servants, who do not attend to the complaints of the people and opined that they are shying away from their duties in reaching the benefits of government schemes and facilities to the poor and down trodden.

"Proper planning is needed as far as development is concerned in the state and if we fail to do so then there is every possibility of problems arising in near future," Mr Alemao observed.

Mr Anant Shet said that the government is taking initiative for the development of Mayem constituency and that the villagers should cooperate with the government. Ms Hemlata Gaonkar and Mr Vachasunder also spoke on the occasion. Mr Atchut Gaonkar proposed the vote of thanks.
