Vishwajeet assures regular checks on Panaji fish quality

PANAJI: The Health Minister, Mr Vishwajeet Rane, assured the House during the Zero Hour on Thursday that the directorate of food and drugs administration, health officers and the sanitation officers of the Corporation of the City of Panaji would carry out an integrated inspection every week, to check the quality of fish sold in the city municipal market.

Earlier, the St Cruz MLA, Ms Victoria Fernandes pointed out in a Zero Hour mention that stale and rotten fish are being sold in the city market, with no checks from the CCP authorities, and hence posing health hazard for the public life.
“The fish are preserved in ice for a long time and then sold at exorbitant rates,” she pointed out, demanding to stop such sale.
Speaking further, Mr Rane said that recently, sanitation inspectors of the CCP had carried out an inspection of fish sold in the market and confiscated some rotten fish kept for sale.
In another Zero Hour mention, the Mapusa MLA, Mr Francis D’Souza pointed out that due to the logging of water on the road going from Karaswada to Bicholim, grave danger has been posed to the lives of the local residents. He also questioned the relevance of preparation of estimates by the Public Works Department to solve the problem, when the work should have been carried out on a war footing.
The PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao informed the House that the particular water logged junction of the NH 17 - from Panaji to Mumbai – comes under the jurisdiction of the Mapusa Municipal Council and that the PWD has informed the council about the same.
He also informed that there are few encroachments along the road at Karaswada, which are preventing repairs of the nearby drainage, resulting in the water logging during rains.
The Speaker, Mr Pratapsingh Rane informed the PWD Minister that the highways are under the jurisdiction of the PWD and he should act fast to solve the water logging problem. Finally, Mr Alemao assured the House that he would remove all the encroachments and clear the water logging.
