PANAJI: Support to former forest minister, Mr Vinay Tendulkar is growing as the next state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, with the names of the North Goa parliamentarian, Mr Shripad Naik and former Fatorda MLA, Mr Damu Naik falling back from the list of probable candidates for the coveted post.

Mr Tendulkar, if elected, would be the state BJP party chief from South Goa, after a long time.
Mr Rajendra Arlekar was the last state BJP president elected from South Goa. The election for the top state-level organisational post will be held on November 18.
Admitting that Mr Tendulkar is definitely in the race for the important post, the state BJP president, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar told The Navhind Times on Thursday evening that he however, cannot comment on the outcome of the election.
“Our party follows total democratic process in elections right from the booth level to the selection of the party president,” he added, pointing out, “And this means that filing of nomination papers, their scrutiny and other democratic exercises are carried out as per the party’s constitution.”
“Nevertheless, we, like in the past would try to reach a consensus and make efforts to elect the president unanimously,” Mr Parsekar, who is also the Health Minister  said, maintaining that the recent party elections held at the booth level for as many as 1,400 booths had resulted in unanimous choice of office bearers.
“In fact, the booth in the Poriem village was the sole exception where we had to conduct the election,” he informed, adding that the opposition party as well as section of the media should take a note of the same, as they had commented earlier about nobody being interested in contesting the organisational elections of the BJP.
“I am the state party president, and carry certain responsibility, which prevents me from making any speculation or prediction about the next state party chief,” he concluded.
A senior office-bearer of the state BJP unit, on the condition of anonymity, said the party has decided to award Mr Tendulkar with the post of the state BJP president, for all the hard work he had put in during the assembly elections early this year, for bringing the party to power.
“The fact that Mr Tendulkar is from the mining area also goes in his favour,” the party office-bearer added, mentioning that the party is further aware of the fact that Mr Tendulkar was not considered for candidature in the Sanvordem constituency, which he once represented, in favour of Mr Ganesh Gaonkar, during the recent assembly polls.
It may be recalled that Mr Michael Lobo has been elected as the North Goa district president of the party, while Mr Subhash Phaldessai has been elected as the South Goa district president.
