VASCO: Long queues of applicants were witnessed in the office of the Mormugao mamlatdar on Friday, as form VI and other forms of the electorates were taken up for scrutiny.
The mamlatdar, Mr Rajesh Azgaonkar, when contacted, informed that according to the directions from the chief election commissioner, the process of filling form VI has started in polling booths. He also informed that form VIII (A) which has been issued towards changing the respective ward and constituency as applicable by the electorate has also been in the process.
However, Mr Azgaonkar informed that the majority of the forms received from the applicants are form VI which basically states for the inclusion of new names in the electoral roll.
He said that on the very first day of the hearing, he has cleared around 300 applications from the four constituencies of Mormugao taluka including Vasco, Dabolim and Cortalim.
Meanwhile, when contacted the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate, Mormugao, Mr Levinson Martins, he said that since the municipal ward elections are ahead, stress has been laid on accepting the forms from the new electorates by June 30.
When asked whether the inclusion of new names of the applicants will be enrolled in the electoral roll during upcoming municipal ward elections, he stated that the final decision will be taken by the election commissioner and the office of the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate, adding that the office of the Mormugao mamlatdar is not authorised for the same.
However, it has been learnt that there are over 2000 new names and most of them are from Mormugao, Vasco and Dabolim constituency.
