MARGAO: Reacting to the news of the admission of the Taleigao MLA, Mr Atanasio Monserrate and more importantly the statement of the GPCC chief, Mr Subhash Shirodkar that the UGDP has effectively merged with the Congress, its secretary-general,
Mr Anacleto Viegas condemned Mr Shirodkar’s statement and clarified that Mr Monserrate had been expelled from the party some three years back and the Speaker had been duly informed about it.
"The entire executive committee is intact. We have just fought elections in Jharkhand. He (Mr Shirodkar) is daydreaming if he thinks he can finish the party," Mr Viegas told the media while speaking about the purported statement of the GPCC president. "I condemn this statement," Mr Viegas stated.
The UGDP president, Dr Jorson Fernandes is out of the country -- he is said to have gone for a rotary governor’s conference.
Mr Viegas also argued that lots of people, including Mr Churchill Alemao, Mr Francisco Xavier Pacheco and Mr Suresh Parulekar, had left the party, or tried to break it, but it was still intact.
He also charged that the Congress was like magnet for all corrupt politicians involved in all shady deals.
