Two chain snatching incidents in Ponda

PONDA: The Ponda police on Monday, lodged complaints against four unknown persons, for allegedly snatching two mangalsutras in two separate incidents.

Both the incidents took place in broad daylight and it was informed that the total worth of the mangalsutras is around Rs 1.30 lakh. No arrests have been made so far.

The Ponda police informed that in the first case, Ms Laximi Kambli, A 59-year-old RESIDENT OF Dhavli, complaint that two motorcycle-bound men, snatched her mangalsutra at around noon, while she was waiting by the roadside with a gas cylinder. She informed the police that the men, who were not wearing any helmet, were speaking in Marathi and that they approached her and snatched her mangalsutra worth about Rs 1 lakh.

The police received another complaint from Ms Trupti Naik, a 48-year-old resident of Veling-Mardol, that her magalsutra was also snatched by two men on a motorcycle, on Monday afternoon. She stated that the incident happened while she was walking along the road. The value of the second mangalsutra is estimated to be around Rs 30,000.

She informed the police that the rider was wearing a helmet, while the pillion rider was wearing a cap.

The Ponda police have registered a case under section 379, 356, read with 34 of the IPC and further investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, the Ponda police have registered a case against a truck driver, Sheikh Ahmed, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, for failing to deliver a consignment worth Rs 42.82 lakh to its destination in Kolkata. The truck (AP-21 W-5265) had left Goa on October 4; however, it had failed to reach its desired destination.

The Ponda police informed that Mr Ravindra Reddy of Balaji Transport, lodged the complaint against the driver for breach of trust. A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations are in progress.
