PONDA: In an incident of theft, a temple at Dharbandora, near sugar factory, was burgled on the intervening night of June 27 and 28, where religious items worth Rs 24,000 including cash of Rs 5000, was reported missing.
Ponda police informed that the president of Shri Datta mandir committee, Mr Rajesh Desai has lodged a complaint to this effect that the unknown miscreants effected entry into the temple by bending the latch on the door but without breaking open the lock.
The burglars then laid their hands on the cash box and lifted Rs 5000 from it. They also took away six silver idols, one CD player and one cradle, informed PI, Mr C L Patil while briefing the reporters about the incident.
The burglary came to light when the temple priest noticed the door open on Monday morning. Thereafter, he immediately alerted the committee members. Police who were informed rushed to the scene and took stock of the situation.
The case has been registered under Sections 454, 457 and 380 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unknown persons.
