PANAJI: The revenue of the state government is on a gradual rise with the first five months of the financial year registering an income of around Rs 1,200 crore through various government departments.
The Commissionerate of Commercial Taxes has itself earned revenue of Rs 98.88 crore in the month of August as against revenue of Rs 86.76 crore registered in August 2009.
Highly placed government sources informed that most of the departments including the Commissionerate of Commercial Taxes have been able to meet their revenue generation targets and departments like transport, excise, mines, lotteries and land registration have witnessed very good collections. "However, not all government departments will reach their targets by the end of this financial year," they maintained.
The sources further revealed that the Commissionerate of Commercial Taxes had been given a target to collect revenue of Rs 1,800 crore this financial year and till date, it has earned revenue of around Rs 650 crore, including Rs 98.88 crore in the month of August.
The department of mines has collected revenue of Rs 310 crore during past five months in the form of royalty while the transport department has gathered Rs 68 crore. The revenue target of the excise department for this financial year is around Rs 100 crore and till date, it has collected Rs 44.5 crore in the government treasury. The revenue colleted since April 2010 by way of registry and notaries is Rs 18 crore and is expected to go up to Rs 24 crore by the end of the financial year.
Meanwhile, the online lottery recently introduced by the state government has provided the state exchequer with revenue of Rs 8.5 crore. The government is expected to receive a sum of Rs 12 crore on the same by the end of the financial year. Furthermore, if the turnover of the particular lottery crosses Rs 1,000-crore mark, then the government is entitled to receive additional money. Unfortunately, the government has still not been able to find a solution to the financial burden on its exchequer resulting from the implementation of recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
