State asked to furnish compliance report on water supply to Porvorim

PANAJI: The Division Bench of the High Court of Bombay at Goa constituting of Mr Justice D G Karnik and Mr Justice F M Reis has directed the state to furnish details of compliance with its earlier orders concerning the regular water supply to the areas of Porvorim and Socorro in Bardez.

The petition has been filed by a resident of Socorro. The petitioner has brought the acute water shortage in Porvorim and surrounding areas to the notice of the court. The court had also taken cognizance of the gravity of the issue vide several media reports.

Earlier, the state had furnished details of the steps taken by it for providing regular water supply to these areas.

The advocate appearing on behalf of the state informed the court that the draft of the Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulations, 2008 had been notified. Moreover, he informed the court that in pursuance of its direction a fortnightly schedule of timings of water supply are published near the reservoirs by displaying boards.

Advocate, Ms Norma Alvares, amicus curiae of the court informed the court that its earlier orders have not been complied with in toto. Moreover she submitted detailed suggestions for the consideration of the state to deal with all the aspects concerning the issue. The matter will now come up on October 4 where the state is expected to furnish details of its compliance with the earlier orders of the court.
