Spate of robberies in state in two days

PANAJI: A number of robberies including chain snatchings, house burglaries, flats break-ins, shop break-ins as well as failed robbery attempts gripped the state in the last couple of days.

Some unknown persons broke into a beauty parlour in Betim and decamped with cash of ` 2 lakh from the drawer. In this regard, one Ms Carol, wife of Mr Sylvestar Rosario, residing opposite ANT guesthouse, near football ground, Alto-Betim lodged a complaint informing that the accused entered the parlour by breaking open the shutter lock. PSI, Mr Vishram Naik is investigating the case.

In another case, Ms Pushpa, wife of Mr Vishnu Naik (42), residing in 20-Point programme colony, Sangolda, has lodged a complaint that two motorcycle-bound persons snatched a gold mangalsutra worth ` 82,000 from her neck. She said that the incident occurred while she had taken shelter under a tree during rains. She added that an unknown person stood next to her and when rain subsided, as she started walking he snatched away her mangalsutra and disappeared on the motorcycle.

In a theft case, Ms Tulsi, wife of Laxmikant Shirodkar, staying behind Pinto Garage, Old Goa, lodged a complaint with the Porvorim police that unknown motorcyclist snatched away her gold mangalsutra worth ` 1,50,000 near Betim Petrol pump.

In yet another case Mr Anil S Chavan from Techno Park, Porvorim lodged a complaint that some unknown persons attempted to commit theft by break opening the main door latch of his flat but could not succeed in affecting entry. Also one Mr Kottanal Joseph from Housing Board Colony-Porvorim, complained that some unknown persons entered into his house and attempted to commit theft but could not lay hands on anything.

In another case, one Mr Jyotiba Dattu Shinde, the manager of a city hotel, a resident of Merces, caught Samir Nadaf alias Suleiman red-handed while attempting to flee with the Pulsar Motorcycle (GA-07-H-3315) that was parked in a open parking place in front of the hotel in Panaji. Head constable Mr Julio Diniz is investigating the
case.

At Old Goa police station, one Mr Babaji Kalaigar, residing at Indira Nagar, Chimbel, lodged a complaint stating that some unknown person stole away Splendor motorcycle (GA-07-D-9163) from an open parking place at Alto-St Cruz at a construction site. 

In Marcel, two thieves were arrested and gold jewellery worth ` 20-25 lakh besides cash were recovered from their possession. In Pernem, the police arrested two women Laxmi Rathod, (30) and Renuka  Lamani (20), both from Karaswada-Mapusa besides the manager of a scrapyard and recovered all the stolen property worth ` 2 lakh besides cash of ` 30,000.
