Siolim VP sore over bad roads; takes up issue with PWD

MAPUSA: The Siolim panchayat has taken up the issue of all the damaged roads in Siolim with the PWD.

It has urged the department to work speedily and repair all the bad roads and the bad drains in Siolim before Chaturthi.

Siolim Marna sarpanch, Ms Pratibha Shirodkar, when contacted, said that there were various blocked drains and the Siolim road also had developed potholes at many places.

Incidentally, the large hole developed about two months back on the approach road to the Siolim church is causing great inconvenience to people, who come with their vehicles to the church.

Due to the continuous rains in the last two days the mud below the road is slowly caving in posing a serious threat to the road itself and the adjoining retaining wall.

All cables passing under the road have been exposed due to the hole and considering that the road leads to the narrow old bridge over the creek, there is a severe threat to the people moving along the road.

Ms Shirodkar said that the PWD has been informed adding though the works of this magnitude should actually be taken up on a war-footing, it could not be known why there is so much delay. She further said that she would try and get the work done soon.
