Sardinha wants panel to monitor MPLADS projects

MARGAO: Pointing to neglect of some projects set up under the MPLAD Scheme, the South Goa Member of Parliament, Mr Francisco Sardinha on Sunday underscored the need to set up a panel to monitor functionality as well as maintenance of such projects.

Mr Sardinha was speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration of the childrens park-cum-garden set up under MPLAD Scheme at Aquem-Margao on Sunday.

"Often after a year or two the projects constructed under MPLADS face neglect due to lack of maintenance and as a result, they get damaged," lamented Mr Sardinha.

While urging MMC councillors to propose projects wherever necessary, Mr Sardinha assured funds in the larger interest of the people. He also said that the funds are meant only for the development of people.

Speaking on the occasion, the Margao MLA and former chief minister, Mr Digambar Kamat said that Mr Sardinha has been kind enough in sanctioning MPLAD funds for development of Margao. He also praised Mr Sardinha for sanctioning ` 30 lakh funds for two childrens parks in Margao. The chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, Mr Arthur D’Silva and Fr Legorio D Costa also spoke on the occasion.
