BICHOLIM: The Bicholim fire services station officer informed that a fire at a hotel in Virdi, Sanquelim, destroyed property worth around Rs 50,000.

The fire broke out on Wednesday, at around 8.40 a.m.and upon receiving the information, the fire services personnel rushed to the site and battled the fire for around an hour and a half, before finally dousing it. The fire services personnel also managed to save property of around Rs 1.5 lakh.
The owner of the hotel, Mr Vasudev Sawal said that a electrical short circuit was the most likely cause of the fire. He informed that a refrigerator, some grocery items and other valuables were gutted.
The rescue operation was carried out under the guidance of fire station officer, Mr Laxman Naik and leading fireman, Mr A S Dhawaskar.
