PONDA: Plastic bottle caps, worth Rs 1.5 crore, were destroyed in the fire that broke out at Oriental Containers Ltd at Kundaim, on Thursday morning, informed the Fire and Emergency Services’ senior fire station officer, Mr D D Redkar.
The cause of fire was, however, was not ascertained, said Mr Redkar adding one Mr S Prabhakar informed them about the incident and then they rushed to the site.
We managed to save property worth Rs 2.5 crore, the senior fire station officer said while speaking to this reporter. The incident of fire occurred at around 8.15 a.m., when the workers were about to join their duty. The marketing manager of the company, said that it was a store room and that no causality was reported in the incident.
According to company officials, around 2 crore plastic caps were destroyed in the fire. The officials, when asked about the possible reason, said “anything could have happened right from the short circuits.’’
The station fire officer, Kundaim Industrial Estate, Mr Shripad Gawas, said that back up was provided to them by the Ponda, Old Goa, and Panaji HQ fire stations to put out the fire. It took them nearly three and half hours to douse the flames.
When this reporter visited the site, the asbestos sheets of the top shed (extended), where the stock was stored, were seen destroyed due to the fire; several boxes were seen burnt on the floor. The reporters were requested not to click the photographs of the burnt stock and the place, by the officials.
