PANAJI: The consumers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders have been asked to register their Aadhar number with the LPG dealers before February end to avail subsidy on cylinders.
The Jahanvi Gas agency in St Inez witnessed a chaos on Wednesday morning as the consumers rushed to the dealer to know about this new ‘formality’. LPG consumers are anxious as most of them are yet to receive their Aadhar cards.
Consumers have been told that they would have to pay full amount on purchase of every cylinder if they do not register the Aadhar number with the LPG gas dealers within a stipulated time.
Customers are asked to fill forms that state the government of India intends to launch direct transfer of subsidy to domestic LPG customers from February 15. After the launch, all domestic LPG customers will get LPG cylinders at the market rate.
Consumers have also been told that henceforth they will have to buy cylinder at non-subsidised rate but those who have their Aadhar number registered with the gas dealer and form submitted in prescribed format will avail subsidy on the cylinder, which will be credited to the customer’s bank account.
The form seeks details like name of the company, name of the distributor, consumer number, name of the LPG customer, registered mobile number or residential address with a photo identity.
However, many consumers have complained of rude behaviour by the office staff of the gas dealers when they approach them to know about these formalities. Consumers alleged that the staffs at the offices of the gas dealers are uncooperative and not so forthcoming whenever one wants to clear doubts over any formality.
