Police gear up ahead of Ganesh festival

PANAJI: The state police have discussed various security aspects in view of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, which will kick off on September 11, including security arrangements for various sarvojanik Ganeshotsav mandals in the state.

The sub-divisional police officer, Mr Deu Banavalikar informed that police have taken few measures as part of security during the festival, wherein the sarvojanik Ganeshotsav organisers have been urged to install CCTVs at the venue, to ensure proper illumination, for deployment of volunteers at the venue, to make provisions for fire fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, sand bags, water etc.

Apart from this, they have been also asked to report to police about suspicious persons, unattended objects, to ensure proper frisking of devotees with hand held detectors, proper access control with only one entry, exit points; barricading around the venue and in case, if police is required during night time, they would have to inform the police station in-charge or the sub divisional police officer, Mr Banavalikar, Panaji for night patrolling to be maintained by the police.

Other measures include, avoiding bursting of crackers near residential areas, shops, petrol pumps, religious places, identifying mischievous persons in the processions, and to ensure smooth flow of traffic during procession, vehicles carrying the statue of Lord Ganesh to be checked well in advance.

Besides people have been advised to prevent communal disturbances by not raising pro-active slogans near other religious places, not to indulge in collection of donation by force, not to install idols at the disputed spots, not to take out procession through disputed areas, not to throw gulal (colour) on other religious places besides not to indulge in eve-teasing etc.
