PANAJI: The Porvorim police are yet to make any headway in the murder of the scrap dealer, Ravi Nishad of Uttar Pradesh, whose body was found in a decomposed state in a goods rickshaw at PDA colony, Porvorim on Thursday morning.
Although many persons have been interrogated in connection with the murder the Porvorim police are still groping in the dark.
The deceased, who was presently residing in Mapusa, was strangulated to death with the help of a wire. His limbs were tied together and the body was kept under the driver’s seat of a goods rickshaw (GA-01-Z-9417).
When some of the residents of PDA colony complained that foul smell was emanating from the rickshaw the police rushed to the site and found the body in a highly decomposed state. It was then referred to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim for post-mortem examination, which revealed that he died of asphyxia due to strangulation.
It may be recalled that Mr Harishankar, brother of the deceased, had lodged a missing report at the Porvorim police station on Wednesday when his brother failed to return home.
In his complaint, Mr Harishankar had stated that his brother had borrowed a sum of ` 7000 from him besides ` 10,000 from another known person to buy scrap from a dealer. But all the money amounting to ` 17,000 was missing from his pocket when the body was found.
Thereafter several scrap dealers from the jurisdiction of Porvorim police station were rounded up for interrogation and a dog squad and a finger print expert were also pressed into service but no clues were obtained.
The investigating police officer, PSI, Mr Sagun Sawant has expressed confidence of solving the case as soon as possible.
