VASCO: The Vaddem Nagar government high school based at New-Vaddem is in a dilapidated condition, posing a risk to the lives of the students due to the failure of the education department to initiate necessary action on repairs and renovation of the school building, making it not very conducive for learning.
There are nearly 500 students studying in the two sessions of the school building which include secondary and primary sections. Despite several reminders to the education department, the authorities have failed to initiate necessary action.
A well wisher of the school Chandrakant Gawas, informed that he had personally written several letters to the education department and to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who is holding the education portfolio, however till date no action has been initiated by the authorities.
He disclosed that the Vaddem Nagar government high school is the oldest institution of learning in New-Vaddem locality and till date the school has given good results in the SSC examination.
“This school caters to the needs of the children who come from poor and downtrodden families, but due to the efforts of the parent teacher’s association, the school has provided good passing results in the SSC examination”, stated Gawas.
He disclosed the major requirement of the school is providing a new gate at the main entrance of the building in order to restrict strangers into the school premises.
He requested the chief minister to give timely attention to meet the requirements of the school which include, repair of windows and doors, fixing of window panes, painting of the entire school building, renovation of the girls and boys toilets, repair of broken/cracked walls, replacing the entire roof of the school building, concreting school ground to stop dust pollution, construction of hall, construction of ramp on the entrance of the school building, fencing of the compound wall and other minor works.
When contacted Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho in whose assembly jurisdiction the school is located, informed that the necessary requirements of the school has been sent to the chief minister who is kind enough to take up the repair and renovation works in view of the letter sent by the headmaster of the school and other concerned citizens to various authorities including him.
Godinho said, “I am personally following up the necessary renovation and repair works of the school, since education is my first priority.”
