MMC holds meet over order on procurement of vehicles

VASCO: An emergency meeting of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) was held on Monday in order to ratify the order placed for the procurement of vehicles, dust bins, water tanker, garbage van and other necessary equipment.

The MMC had earlier decided to purchase three vehicles including garbage compactor with 100 metallic dust bins, water tanker and garbage van and the government had allocated sufficient funds to procure these equipment for the council.

Although the amount to purchase the vehicles and other necessary equipment was sanctioned by the government, the MMC has not procured any equipment so far.

In order to ratify the above order, the council has unanimously decided to take the delivery of the vehicles and other
necessary equipment.

The former MMC chairperson, Mr Carlos Almeida has stated that the order was placed as per earlier council resolution and since the supplier have now asked to take the delivery of the vehicles and the procurement of the vehicles is needed on urgent basis the order should be ratified.

The former MMC chairperson, Mr Saifullah Khan and a city ward councillor, Mr Krishna Salkar had raised objections to the order placed for the purchase of the vehicles and other equipment, for being done without following proper process of tendering, as required by the law.
