Mining corridor in Tivim within next two years: Khandolkar

MAPUSA:  Tivim MLA, Mr Kiran Khandolkar informed that Tivim would be having a mining corridor within the next two years as land for a mining bypass has already been acquired.

Mr Khandolkar, speaking to this daily, informed that a bypass would be constructed from Sirsaim in Tivim to Mulgaon in Bicholim and for this purpose section four is already over and presently section six is in force with regards to acquisition of land.

"In view of the fact that the main Tivim road is always crowded with vehicles and there is no scope for widening, we felt that the non-passenger vehicles including mining trucks that add to the traffic congestion should be diverted. It is for this reason that a bypass has been proposed which will cater to the mining traffic and within the next two years the bypass should be a reality," he informed.

Mr Khandolkar’s bypass project assumes significance in view of the fact that the Chorla ghat road which is a ‘shortcut’ to Belgaum could witness heavy traffic movement once repaired, which would consequently cause more stress on the Tivim road. So diverting mining traffic along the bypass could considerably reduce the traffic congestion along the Tivim road.

Meanwhile, Mr Khandolkar listened to the grievances of people of Tivim on his visit to the Bodiem church recently. Problems arising due to constant power failures were brought to the notice of the MLA, who assured to do the needful in this regard.
