Margao pick-up stand likely to be shifted

MARGAO: In an effort to decongest the town and tackle parking woes, Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to shift the pick-up stand here to an area developed by the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA).

However, MMC is yet to finalise the date of shifting the pick-up stand. Sources in MMC informed that the pick-up owners will be taken into confidence before shifting them near the SGPDA market area. Sources further said that MMC chairperson and councillors will convene a meeting with the pick-up owners to discuss the matter.
When asked, MMC chairperson, Mr Arthur D Silva, said that grievances of the pick-up owners would be heard before shifting them to the new location near the SGPDA market.
SGPDA member secretary, Mr Rajesh Naik said that an area of around 800 square metres was developed near the SGPDA market for the said purpose a year ago.
“Funds from SGPDA coffers were spent to develop the area and it is being rented out for `30 per square metre per day to individuals and car sellers,” he added.
