MARGAO: The Margao Municipality worker, Mr Wenceslan Silva, who was on an indefinite hunger strike to press for his demand for the regularization of his services, withdrew the agitation on Saturday after he was given a written assurance by the municipal administration.
Mr Silva, along with some relatives and Citizens Working Center (CWC) president, Mr Sriram Raiturkar, was on an indefinite hunger strike in protest against the municipality’s decision to ignore his candidature for regularisation into its services despite working for it for the past 14 years.
The civic worker claiming that he worked in various capacities with the civic body during his years of services, had argued that many non-Goan candidates were considered by the municipality for regularisation.
He had said that his name was there in the list of workers eligible for regularisation, but the municipality considered other names for regularisation.
On Saturday, the Urban Development Minister, Mr Joaquim Alemao discussed the matter with the Fatorda MLA, Mr Damodar Naik, MMC chairperson, Mr Savio Coutinho, CWC secretary, Mr Sanjeev Raiturkar, director of municipal administration, Mr Havaldar, councillor, Ms Piedade Noronha and others.
The director of municipal administration has now fixed a meeting on Monday at the municipal office wherein departmental promotion committee would sit to take appropriate decision.
The director has issued letters to all those concerned regarding the same, it is understood.
Secretary of Citizens Working Center (CWC), Mr Sanjeev Raiturkar speaking to media, however, has expressed displeasure as the Local MLA and the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat did not visit the striking worker. He said that he explained the case to the minister and others at the meeting.
