Internet, robotics fastest growing fields in technology: Pranav

PANAJI: A team of budding electronic engineers from Goa College of Engineering Farmagudi, were invited by the Ex-Students Association, for a presentation on Robo World, to be given for the students of Std VIII, IX and X of St Mary’s High School, Ponda.

The team comprised of Mr Pranav Pai Vernekar and Mr Upesh Prabhu who contributed in the robot hardware, and Mr Vaibhav Sathe who did the coding of the robot. They were ably supported by Mr Abhijit Mahalunkar, who is working on a sound controlled robot, and Mr Rohan Kelkar, The project was guided by Professor Samarth Borkar.

Mr Vernekar who was recently judged as the best outgoing student (2010-2011) from Goa Engineering College Farmagudi, made the presentation to about 276 students, who were accompanied by teachers and staff, including sistes. He said that Internet and robotics are one of the fastest growing revolutionary and most researched fields in technology today. The robot can be controlled from any part of the world by pre-existing link like Internet, which has facilitated applications in various fields such as medicine, defence, transportation, etc. He touched upon the history behind the concept of robots, the making of the robots and the technical aspects.

He covered the technological aspects like creation of web based interface, to command the robot, which can be visited by typing unique URL or IP address.

Security features like password are also incorporated to allow choosing a number of facilities, to view feeds, to control motion, to control robotic arm etc. Earlier, the principal, Sr Annie Paul welcomed the gathering. Mr Vikas K Chodankar secretary of Ex-Students Association and placement in-charge of Goa Engineering College introduced the team to the students. Treasurer, Ms Sibelia Fernandes was also present along with the most senior teacher, Ms Sulbha U Naik Gaunekar.
