Inculcate reading habit to attain knowledge: Shripad

BICHOLIM: Emphasising on the need for inculcating book-reading habits among the educated lot, the North Goa MP, Mr Shripad Naik has said that reading enriches knowledge and also gives us salvation thereby making our lives happy and fruitful.

Mr Naik was speaking after inaugurating the hall of ‘Sarvan Vachnalaya’ on Sunday at Sarvan-Bicholim in the presence of the Deputy Speaker, Mr Anant Shet as the special invitee.

The deputy sarpanch of Karapur-Sarvan village panchayat, Mr Dhiraj Sawant, panch, Mr Deepak Gaonkar, president of the saunstha, Mr Umakant Sawant, devasthan president, Mr Shekhar Sawant and PWD engineer, Mr Kurayya Kauns were present on the dais on the occasion.

Mr Naik unveiled the plaque to mark the inauguration of the hall constructed under MPLAD scheme fund at a cost of about Rs 8 lakh. Mr Naik lit the traditional lamp on the occasion. He also said that he prioritises use of MPLAD fund for providing educational and healthcare facilities in the rural areas.

"Developmental works as well as projects like community halls for social institutions, temples, financial assistance for school buildings, crematorium, roads, gutters, beautification of places, supply of educational equipments and computers to secondary schools etc have been undertaken and completed. During the last four years, more than 600 development works have been completed under MPLAD scheme in North Goa," Mr Naik said further.

Mr Naik asked the educated youth from rural areas to make best use of the library books and to utilise the hall for conducting educational, cultural and social activities. The Deputy Speaker, Mr Anant Shet applauded the task undertaken by ‘Sarvan Vachanalay’ saunstha in the past three decades and asked the members of the saunstha to continue with the social and educational works for the benefits of the younger generation, especially school students.

The deputy sarpanch, Mr Dhiraj Sawant and devasthan president, Mr Shekhar Sawant also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the president of the saunstha, Mr Umakant Sawant welcomed the guests and the gathering and later proposed the vote of thanks. Mr Vinod Sawal compered the
function.

After the inauguration function, Shri Shyampurush Kala Pathak presented folk art performance ‘Morulo’.
