‘Identify problems of workers to ensure safety’

PANAJI: Stating that productivity is directly linked to safety, health and environment, the Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Srivastava has asked safety and health officers to interact constantly with the employees working in industries and identify their problems if any for redressal.

Mr Srivastava said, sometimes workers are working under stress and family-related problems and therefore it is necessary to sort out these issues to make the employees happy, ensure their safety and boost production.

Addressing the delegates after inaugurating the 8th National Conference on Occupational Safety, Health and Environment on the theme ‘Changing World of Work-Emergency New Hazards and Methods of Prevention at work places" organised by Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers in collaboration with Green Triangle Society at Dona-Paula, on Friday, the Chief Secretary complimented the organisers for holding the conference on important safety aspect at work places.

He said a mother takes care of her children in the same way the industrial management has to look after the safety of the workers.

Without proper safety, health and environment, industries cannot progress Mr Srivastava said and hoped that the delegates will have fruitful deliberations to promote safety at work places.

Secretary for Factories and Boilers, Mr V K Jha stressed the need to improve safety not only at work places but at home as well. Tackling hazards was of vital importance and those holding higher positions should work for overall security at work places, he said emphasizing the need to adopt new ways in dealing with the problems of safety.

He also stressed the need to sensitize workers at work places.

Ms Garima Gupta, Director of Industries complimented Green Triangle Society for promoting safety awareness. Such conferences will help foster a safe environment in Industries, she added.

Mr Manguirish Pai Raikar, chairman Green Triangle Society welcomed and Mr S M Paranjape, chief inspector of factories and boilers proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural function was followed by three scientific sessions on occupational health, safety and environment on the theme human resource development in occupational health, aging workforce a growing challenge and emerging trends in environment management.
