PANAJI: With the new moon having been sighted in the state, Id-ul-Fitr would be celebrated in Goa on Monday. The respected imams of the mosques will lead the Muslims in offering the prayers. With the rainy conditions prevailing in the state, the Id prayers would be offered in mosques.

The Governor, Mr B V Wanchoo and the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar have extended warm greetings to the people, particularly the Muslims on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr.
In his message, the Governor said, “Our country is an abode where all religions flourish in an atmosphere of mutual respect, mutual understanding, amity and tolerance, thereby exhibiting to the world our ideal of ‘unity in diversity’. The philosophical, spiritual and moral values taught by our seers, sages, saints, savants and philosophers continue to have a far-reaching and lasting impact on preserving our country’s unity and cultural integration. Prophet Mohammed gave us the eternal message of love, compassion and tolerance, which has great relevance and value today, when the world is faced with evils of hatred, mistrust and religious fundamentalism. Goa is a land of spiritual harmony and cultural integration. On the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, I appeal to the people to maintain and further enrich this valuable tradition.”
In his Id-ul-Fitr message, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that this joyous occasion would be the harbinger of sustained peace, progress, prosperity and happiness and would further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity, which are the hallmarks of the state’s glorious pluralistic traditions. Mr Parrikar said that Id-ul-Fitr reminds us of our responsibility to help the poor and needy and inculcates the spirit of sharing happiness and joy with everyone. He said every religion teaches us peace, brotherhood, amity and love besides tolerance and patience. He said let us all pledge today to work together for the peace, prosperity and well-being of the state and its people.
Meanwhile, in a press statement issued by the president of the Association Anjuman Nurul Islam, Panaji, Haji Mustafa S Kader has conveyed Id-ul-Fitr greetings to all on behalf of the committee members and on his own behalf.
