Girl poisoned by aunt succumbs

VALPOI: The 16-year-old girl who was admitted at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, after she was allegedly fed prasad laced with Ratol by her aunt, died on Sunday.

The statement given by the victim also substantiates the fact that the aunt had forcibly fed her with Ratol-laced prasad.

It may be recalled that according to a complaint filed at Valpoi police station, the victim Utkarsha Parab was taken from Bhoomika higher secondary school, Poriem at around 11 a.m. on July 16, by her aunt Sneha Gaonkar by misguiding the school authorities. At 2 p.m, Utkarsha’s father Mr Uday Parab received a call form her from Sneha’s mobile informing she is somewhere close to the Bicholim bus stand. Mr Uday also told police that he heard Sneha in the background.

Acting upon the complaint, the Valpoi police arrested the accused on Friday evening. The accused was interrogated by the police and later on put behind bars on charges of kidnapping and feeding Ratol to her niece from Brahmakarmali in Sattari taluka. Police sources disclosed that the aunt will be charged for murder as the deceased was forced to
consume Ratol.

Meanwhile, on Sunday at around 11.30 a.m., villagers held a gram sabha at Nagargao village panchayat and took a morcha to the Valpoi police station. The aggrieved mob of around 150 people demanded justice to the victim. While negotiating with the police top official including Superintendent of Police, Mr Arvind Gawas and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Bosquet Silva, the aggrieved villagers demanded suspension of PSI, Mr Terren Vaz attached to the
Bicholim police station.
