German files Rs 37 lakh cheating complaint

PANAJI: Four persons allegedly cheated a German national to the tune of around Rs 37 lakh, on the pretext of getting into the jewellery business in partnership with her.

A police official said that the woman furnished the names of the accused as Amar Singh from Vagator, Raj from Anjuna, Khan and Shahid Hussain. She said that with their common intention, the four befriended her at Anjuna and asked her to get into a partnership dealing in jewellery.

They then executed a business contract at Arpora and sent a consignment of diamond jewellery to Sydney in Australia and made the complainant to pay for the same, the German paid for the same through a credit card at Panaji.

The complainant, Ms Katharina Dickel, on reaching Sydney, discovered that the diamond jewellery consignment, that was sent to Australia was not genuine but fake, thus the German lady was cheated by the accused to the tune of Rs 49,000 euros, which is approximately Rs 34 lakh. 

The offence was registered under Section 420 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code. PSI, Mr Anant Gaonkar is investigating the case.
