PANAJI: Sr Pushpa Abraham was elected as the New Superior General of the Congregation of Franciscan Missionaries Sisters of Christ the King (FMCK) on June 6 at Portiuncula, their Generalate in Old Goa.
Sr Pushpa stated that she is ready to do what the Jesus wants. "Although there is administrative work, I would rather focus to animate the sisters with the charism of the congregation and Franciscan Gospel way of life", Sr Pushpa stated.
Noting the challenges of individualism that is affecting religious life, Sr Pushpa stated that she would make an extra effort to revitalize the community spirit among members of the congregation modelled on the life of St Francis of Assisi.
With the theme ‘Rooted in Jesus, We Grow’, 32 delegates of the sisters participated in the 12-day, XI General Chapter from May 27 to June 8. The chapter assessed the life and works of the congregation during the past six years and looked ahead for next six years.
Sr Alexia Bras, Sr Elizabeth Varghese, Sr Rosy Yacoob and Sr Flory Rodrigues were elected as General Councillors for the new administration.
The delegates for the General Chapter expressed sincere appreciation to the outgoing Superior General, Sr Antoinette Lopes, who guided the congregation for past 12 years.
The congregation of Franciscan Miss Sisters of Christ the King was founded in August 1937 by Msgr Salesius Lemmens, and Sr Bridget Sequeira, a daughter of Saligao, who at that time was living in Karachi.Although the Congregation started in Pakistan, where 61 sisters are still working, almost 174 sisters are working in the remote areas all over India.
Four year ago, 4 FMCK sisters have started working in Sri Lanka.
