PANAJI: There is no lean season or off season for drug peddlers as well as for drug addicts in the state, said the Superintendent of Police (SP), Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC), Mr Veenu Bansal.
Addressing the media, Mr Bansal said that drugs keep flowing into the state but the only thing the drug peddlers have realised over time that strong ANC is working smartly, which means they (drug peddlers) are now become extra smart and keep changing their routine strategies.
Specially in winter season, when drugs shrink, or sometimes weight loss occurs due to evaporation and also get spoilt due to improper storage, synthetic drugs play a major role.
The SP further said ANC will be fighting a battle to nab the strong dealers, "as we have changed our strategy and modus operandi and with the rise in the incidents of attack on the informants, they too are shying away from us," he added.
While expressing his views on the notorious Israeli drug dealer, Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, he stated that Crime Branch was no doubt entrusted with the investigations, ANC also helped them nab Atala and added that the law of the land is supreme and if the court interprets that he should be released on bail, here, we do not have any say.
"Our job was to nab the criminal and produce him before the judge and secondly to oppose the bail, but I am sure David Dirham alias Dudu will not be released on bail as he was caught with commercial quantity of drugs," Mr Bansal added.
Atala was granted bail by the NDPS court entirely on a different issue and there was an overstaying case against him, besides he was also convicted as a small quantity of drug was found on him and was punished for his offence with a fine.
Referring to the recent attack on a constable attached to the ANC, who was attacked while he had gone to verify the existence of a drug-dealing spot in a case, Mr Bansal said the case is being investigated.
