Disgruntled Cutbona trawler crew navigate boat to Karwar

KARWAR/MARGAO: A fishing trawler, Bhakthintha Fr Juze Vaz, which was moored at Cutbona jetty in Goa and which was navigated by the crew members towards Karwar, without the knowledge of the owner of the trawler, was traced and seized by the Karwar police at Baithkhol fishing port in Karwar on Tuesday.

According to police, the trawler having a Maharashtra passing (MRF 1714) went missing from the Cutbona jetty, about two days ago and a complaint in this regard was filed at the Cuncolim police station by the owner of the boat, Mr Nicolau Rodrigues of Colva, who stated that two boats were moored the Cutbona jetty, of which, one is missing along with three crew members. Police said that the incident took place between November 17 and 19. Police said that the Mr Rodrigues named James Antony Kirro, Gopal Ambig and Gangadhar Ambig, all from Karnataka, as the suspects.

The Goa police, acting on the complaint, had alerted their counterparts in Karwar and on Tuesday, police in Karwar began a search for the missing boat and found it moored at the Baithkhol fishing port in Karwar. The police also arrested one person in connection with the case of the missing trawler.

Police said that the reason behind the episode was a dispute between the owner and the workers on the boat. The workers decided to take the boat to the Karwar port until the owner agreed to settle the issue, the police said.

Later the boat was handed over to the Goa police.
