PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat on Friday assured the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party of initiating an inquiry into the alleged wrong information provided to the House by the managing director of Goa Industrial Development Corporation as regards the fees collected by the corporation from various mobile companies, towards erection of their mobile towers in different industrial estates.
Earlier, the leader of the opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar pointed out that the managing director of the GIDC who had furnished written reply to the House on the issue, had truncated some of the questions asked by him.
"We believe in whatever answers given to the House, but if they are modified to the necessities of some persons so that few names do not come out in the open, then it amounts to breach of privilege of the House," he observed, demanding that moving beach of privilege against the MD of the GIDC to initiate an action against him would take long time, and hence the Chief Minister should order an inquiry into the same.
The leader of the opposition also stated that at the rate of Rs 15,000 per tower per month, the IDC should have earned a monthly amount of approximately Rs 8 lakh, for the 49 towers located in various industrial estates, which roughly amounts to annual revenue of Rs 1 crore. "However, the situation is quite different, with heavy loss to the GIDC exchequer," he noted, maintaining that the GIDC should have formulated a policy for mobile towers in industrial estates.
The Chief Minister stated that if the inquiry into the matter names anyone guilty, an action would be initiated against the erring person.
