PANAJI: The distribution of portfolios to the second lot of six ministers inducted in the cabinet was announced on Wednesday by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar.
Unlike in the first instance when each minister was given charge of three departments each, the new ministers have been given charge of two departments each.
As per the announcement made by Mr Parrikar, Mr Mahadev Naik, the second-time Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Shiroda, has been given the charge of industries and social welfare departments.
The tourism portfolio, which was allocated to late Matanhy Saldanha in the first instance, has now been allotted to Mr Dilip Parulekar, the Saligao MLA, who also has been given the charge of women and child welfare department.
Mr Ramesh Tawadkar, the Canacona MLA and a tribal leader and a former kabaddi player has been given the charge of the departments of sports and tribal welfare, while Mr Milind Naik, the Mormugao MLA, and has got the charge of the power and housing departments.
The Independent MLA from Navelim, Mr Avertano Furtado has been allocated the departments of labour and fisheries, while Mr Pandurang Dhavlikar of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party has got the charge of the departments of co-operation and factories and boilers.
Mr Parrikar also stated that Mr Dayanand Mandrekar, the Water Resources and Civil Supplies Minister, who was given charge of only two departments as compared to three to other ministers in the first list of minister, has been given additional charge art and culture department.
The Chief Minister reiterated the resolve of his government to run government-run corporations in professional manner by appointing professionals as their chairpersons or managing directors.
