Circulars issued on grading system for SSC examination from 2011

MARGAO: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has issued circulars to the heads of all the recognised secondary schools to implement grading system for SSC examination from March-April 2011 onwards.

The circular also says that for the SSC examination of March-April 2011 both marks and grades will be shown in the certificates and from March-April 2012, only grades will be shown in the certificates.

The Board has also sent the distribution of syllabus to be covered for internal examination and topic-wise weightages for the same along with guidelines for project-assignments in all the subjects.

Meanwhile, school managements have organised workshops for SSC teachers in some parts of Salcete. One such workshop was held at Cuncolim while another one will be held in the month of July at Margao.

Meanwhile, teachers have appealed to the vice chairman of the SSC Board, Ms Farrel Furtado e Gracias to organise such seminars for teachers in Salcete. When contacted, Ms Gracias said that the Board will extend necessary cooperation and that such workshops were being held. She said that one such workshop was organised in Cuncolim at Maria Bambina convent. She said that she will extend all possible help to teachers who needs help in understanding grading system pattern.

The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in the past had send circulars to all the heads of the recognised secondary and higher secondary schools within the jurisdiction of the board that implementation of grading at public examination for standard 10th and 12th has been kept in abeyance.

The Board had also requested the heads of the educational institutions to bring the content of the documents on grading scheme for standard 10th circulated during workshop for heads of schools and standard 12th to the notice of all concerned. It was said that the contents of the grading scheme be discussed at the staff and parents teachers, school complex and other meeting threadbare and comments and suggestions should be sent positively to the Board office by October 10, 2009.

It may be recalled that the Board had held a workshop for the heads of the schools wherein the issue of grading was discussed and several headmasters had suggested to implement the grading system.

A headmaster of a reputed school from Margao said that grading pattern may help students and it was useful.
