VASCO: The desk in-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Goa and former mayor of Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC), Ms Aarti Mehra on Saturday said the central government is on the backfoot with regards to all the key issues of public importance.
Ms Mehra, who is also the national secretary of the BJP, was addressing the party workers at a public meeting, organised by the BJP at Vasco. The meeting was convened to highlight issues relating to corruption in the state government and the ministers, who were involved in illegal activities, including the police-drug nexus.
Speaking in this regard she recalled the efficient, progressive and good governance of the BJP at the time of former prime minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the former chief minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar.
She also urged the BJP workers to spread awareness relating to corruption in the government, in their respective areas, by which, she said BJP would come back in power in the forthcoming Assembly election.
She also said that Goa is the model state and that it has two and half per cent higher economic growth as compared to other states in the country.
The meeting was attended by former chief minister and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar, BJP state unit president, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar, BJP spokesperson, Mr Rajendra Arlekar, Mormugao MLA, Mr Milind Naik, Fatorda MLA, Mr Damodar Naik, Mr Narendra Savoikar, Mr Wilfred Mesquita, Mr Govind Parsekar, Mr Digambar Amonkar, Vasco BJP president, Mr Deepak Naik, Dabolim BJP president, Mr Santosh Kerkar and others.
Kashmir Bachao Din was also observed during the meeting.
Mr Parrikar addressing the gathering also highlighted the corruption in the government and came down heavily on the state government for its failure on all fronts.
The BJP state unit president, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar also spoke at the meeting.
