VASCO: Burglars seem to be having a field day at Vasco with a string of burglaries being reported in the port town. In yet another incident, two shops in the heart of the town were burgled on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, wherein cash and three mobile handsets, all valued at around ` 1.51 lakh were stolen.
According to Vasco police, both the incidents came to light on Saturday morning.
In the first incident, Airtel mobile office, which is located on the ground floor of Rose Mathias Chambers Building along the F L Gomes road, was burgled by some unknown persons, who effected entry into the shop by bending the shutter.
The investigating police officer, Mr Filomeno Costa informed that the shop was run by Mr Sham Naik from Baina. The culprits decamped with cash of ` 97,000, some coins amounting to ` 900 and three mobile handsets worth ` 8,500.
It may be recalled that a couple of months back a shop alongside this shop ‘Macron computers was burgled in a similar fashion.
In the second incident, an International Marine Services office located on the first floor of a building near Bank of Baroda along Swatantra Path was burgled, from where cash of ` 55,000 was stolen.
The investigating officer of this case, Mr Vaibhav Naik informed that the complaint in this regard has been lodged by Mr Sayyed Ashraf. Police summoned a dog squad and a team of finger print experts but could not obtain any clues.
Vasco police have registered the offence under Sections 457 and 380 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigations are underway.
It may be recalled that the house of teacher, Mr Sudesh Gaonkar was burgled on Friday at New Vaddem, wherein cash and gold, collectively valued at ` 1.27 lakh was stolen.
