Benaulim gram sabha  discusses garbage disposal

MARGAO:  The  Benaulim gram  sabha  that was held on  Sunday, had to be adjourned as three crucial hours were spent in confirming the last gram sabha minutes and in discussion over the action taken report.

The sarpanch, Ms Royla A Fernandes,  declared the gram sabha adjourned at 2.15 p.m. seeing the thinning of the crowd.

The continuation of the gram sabha will be held on November 25, she said.

All the  eleven panchayat members were present. The local MLA, Mr Caitano D’Silva, the ZP member, Ms  Maria Rebello,  and Dr Hubert Gomes, who had contested against the MLA, were also present.  Garbage   disposal issue was  seriously discussed by the locals.  

All those who spoke on the issue  expressed  concern over the problem, but non could find an immediate  solution to it.

The panchayat  decided to  depend on  garbage contractor to lift the non-recyclable  waste  even though the  sarpanch and the panchas  had  created awareness on how  to manage their own  generated waste.  

It may be noted that the Benaulim panchayat waste was found dumped at  Verna. Gram sabha members demanded that  photocopies of the  minutes of the last  gram sabha be  circulated among the members of the  gram sabha.

It was then  the copies were given to the gathered  villagers.  

Mr Rodolf  Baretto, Mr  Ciriaco Baretto, Mr Jose  Rodrigues, Ms John  Baretto took  active part in  discussion and  offered some valuable suggestions to the  elected  representatives.  

Discussions were held  on each and every point  noted in the minutes.
