Awareness on use of modern techniques for pain relief stressed

anaesthesiologists and pain physicians in South Goa - stressed on creating awareness among general public that long standing pain as well as pain during childbirth can be reduced to a great extent by using new medicines and techniques.

Dr Venkatesh Nevagi of Padma Clinic briefed the media on various types of chronic pain like backaches, spondylitis, sciatica, headaches like migraine and cancer related pain. He also comforted those with these sufferings by saying that a long standing backache or sciatica can be cured with a simple injection in the back. A terminally ill patient with intractable pain can be given a better quality of pain-free life by certain specialised nerve blocks.

A long standing headache can also be cured by highly advanced technique of blocking various nerves.

Dr Nevagi also emphasised that Goans need not rush to centres in Mumbai, Bangalore or Belgaum as these procedures are now possible in Margao at Padma Clinic.

Dr Neena Faldesai of Margao and Dr Megha Savoikar of Ponda gave a perspective on ‘Pain Relief during Childbirth’. In their address they stressed that no woman should undergo childbirth with pain and agony as this pain can be almost totally curtailed by various techniques, one of the most effective being the labour epidural.

All the pain physicians appealed to the public that they should not allow their near and dear ones to suffer in pain and assured that they are available to help these patients in all their capacity.
