Ambelim VP meet extends support to Velim villagers

MARGAO: The gram sabha of the village of Ambelim, which met on Sunday, in a show of support for their counterparts in Velim village, adopted a resolution supporting the resolution adopted by the gram sabha of Velim panchayat, in opposing the land acquisition proceedings for the purpose of setting up a fish mill in the jurisdiction of the Velim village panchayat.

The sarpanch of Ambelim, Mr Cruz Silva, informed ‘The Navhind Times’ that six members out of the seven-member panchayat, attended the gram sabha on Sunday and opposed the project that is proposed to come up in Velim village.
He said the gram sabha members of his panchayat have extended their full support to the panchayat and the villagers of Velim in opposing the fish mill project, proposed to come up at Kutbona. He said the villagers of Ambelim agreed that the project if allowed to come up will cause severe environmental and ecological damage, not only in the village of Velim, but also in Ambelim and the surrounding villages.
He stated that the gram sabha has demanded a detail project report from the authorities, on the proposed fish mill proposed to come up at Velim, and also details of the land acquisition proceedings in this respect, which are currently underway.
Other issues discussed at the Ambelim gram sabha were regarding the street lights that were not functioning and other issues related to the development and welfare of the village.
A resolution was also adopted to build three roads in a ward for the convenience of the villagers there.
