All projects to be cleared by finance department: CM

PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat on Wednesday said that the government has taken a policy decision to get all its projects cleared by the finance department, and as a result many projects not receiving green signal from the department are getting stalled.

Replying to the allegations made by the leader of the opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar that the major infrastructural projects of the government were getting delayed either due to the paucity of funds or the contractor being the same for every project, the Chief Minister said that the government has taken up minimum such projects during past 2 years.

"This year, additional provision would be made for such projects," he assured, while admitting that initially there was a shortage of funds as too many projects were taken up.

"The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, since past three years, has an annual requirement to the tune of ` 200 cr to `210 crore," he stated, noting that a yearly provision of ` 100 crore is made for the GSIDC, while ` 110 crore is provided to the other client departments for whom projects are undertaken by the GSIDC. "If required, we will make supplementary provisions," he reiterated.

The leader of the opposition pointed out that the major infrastructural projects of the government would require ` 350 crore during the current financial year, while this requirement would be ` 161 crore, during the financial year 2011-12.
